- Ah, you're working my side of the street now, so let me give you a few
- nuggets of information that may put some questions to rest.
-
- The FCC will accept European CISPR22 (EN55022) results as valid proof of
- EMC compliance provided that the manufacturer has provided proof that the
- machine was tested under U.S. operating conditions (120VAC, 60Hz) and
- that there was no difference or that the European configuration (230 VAC,
- 50Hz) actually had higher emissions. This is my job, I get paid to know
- this, so trust me on this, if they can meet the above criterea, there is
- nothing to worry about when it comes to FCC class B certification.
-
- As for CSA, UL, CUL testing, keep in mind that the UL and CSA have worked
- closely with the IEC for many years to "harmonize" thier safety
- standards, so that if one can meet IEC specs, then the UL will most
- likely accept those test results with one or two stipulations. The CSA
- has one or two additional tests that may or may not apply to the A1200
- (such as battery tests), but for the most part they tend to accept
- passage of IEC-grade testing as well.
-
- It is usually easier to make something pass Euro standards (IEC, CISPR)
- and gain US (FCC, UL) acceptance than the reverse. Which is one reason a
- lot of US-made modems are not available for sale in Europe -- they just
- BARELY get by FCC standards, but they fail CISPR testing pretty badly.
